Weekly Creative Roundup

Laura's Zentangle challenge this week was to use the official Zentangle pattern Tipple in your offering. Tipple is just lots of small circles or squished circles and a great space filler. So here's my Tipple offering, along with Paushalov and Pippin.

This week I've been noticing patterns everywhere. Here's a few I've spotted on a cushion in the back of a car, a drain cover and the interior of my rickshaw one morning on the way to work {Henna Drum, Bales-ish, and one that reminds me of W2}.

I had a revelation! I realised that I now had some white paint, so even though I never got my white Gelly Roll to work I could finally finish the Ebony and Ivory challenge! So here it is...

And I'm super happy with it. There's some Crescent Moon, Nzeppel, Kuke and Tripoli.

I've also finished a couple of backgrounds for some freehand mandalas I'm planning to do over the next week.

30 Days of Lists is back. This challenge rolls out every March and September. Super easy to do; just answer the daily prompt with a list! A great way to begin Journaling or for those who don't have much time. Then if you want to you share a pic of your journal page on one of the social networking platforms. Mine go on Instagram.

So after I made coconut milk last week I decided to use it in a Thai Green Curry. I used a bunch of not very Thai veggies... button mushrooms, baby corn, potato, pak choy, carrots, and peas. Then I cheated and bought a jar of green curry paste, as it's really hard to get some of the stuff you need for it.
It was yummy! But I forgot to take any photos. Next time... And there will definitely be a next time!

Zendala Dare 47 - Losing it...

So with this first of the month Zendala dare, Erin challenged us to lose part of this template, to ignore a section...

I chose to lose the middle section creating 4 separate parts for me to tangle.

I chose to use Bunzo, Shattuck (variation), Voga, Nzeppel, and Prestwood.

Snakes...

So with the Chinese New Year of the Snake dawning, Laura set us the challenge of using Snakes as our inspiration for our Zentangle this week.

I used a Nzeppel for the background for a nice tiled effect, and Voga and Striping for my snake.

Zendala Dare 43

As it's the first Saturday of the month, Erin set us the extra challenge of using tangles that make us feel like an artist!

Well for me that means Nzeppel has to be involved... This tile I drew made me feel really proud!

Bales and Sand Swirl are other favourites of mine, and this tile really made me feel like an artist!

Love is all you Need

Laura set this challenge in September 2011 to mark the Ten Year anniversary of the tragedy of 9/11 in New York City.
As Laura wrote "Through love we have the ability to change the world."
I love grid-based patterns so that's what I chose to use.
I used the word 'Love' as my string.
I loved this challenge and the end result, even though my attempt at Bucky went wrong! I joined the wrong pair of dots... So I'm calling it the 'Bucky Oops' variation :D
The tangles I used were Chard, Bloom, Nzeppel, Ninja Stars, Beelight, Postl, Up & Across, and finally, Bucky Oops!

Kiss My Grids

This was another challenge set back in August 2011. This time Laura asked us to draw a grid over the string. I love grid patterns, so had lots of fun doing this one.
I used Beelight for the background, then Nzeppel, Socc and my own Khirkee in the middle of the tile.

Trip to Tripoli

This challenge was set by Laura back in June 2011, when the official tangle Tripoli was released.

Tripoli is a tangle I love to hate! It is so beautiful when tangled by other people, but when I use it.... well, it's a struggle. Still, I rate it as a great tangle. Hopefully it'll get easy for me in time!

As it was such a struggle (I made a 'mistake' nearly as soon as I put pen to paper!), I chose not to make a monotangle, but used Tripoli in the centre section of my tile.

The process started with me using my Random Number Generator to choose the string to use, and TanglePatterns String 021 was selected:

And then I got tangling:

A Little Help from my Friends

So in this challenge set back in May 2011 by Laura, the idea was to get someone to draw a string for you.

I had MoH draw this string:

Stripes 2

Stripes! I love it. Another challenge from the String Theory series, Laura's challenge this week is to use Stripes as our string. It's called Stripes 2 because this one has been done before, back in May 2011.

So I started by drawing a few diagonal stripes and realised again that it was symmetrical (the old Mathematician brain at work!), so I chose to fill it symmetrically too.

And I thought I'd show you my old version too. I drew this earlier this year, and posted it in September, as my response to the original stripes challenge. I'm slowly working my way through the challenges. The photo's not great, and you can see my tangling has come a long way too!!!
